The Retreat visits V-Bites 1st Birthday Celebrations

On 4 July the Retreat travelled down to Hove to support Heather Mills' as her vegan cafe, V-Bites, celebrated it's 1st Birthday. You can watch a short video of the day on our "Retreat Videos" page.

The Retreat on television

In April we appeared on Channel Five news as part of a report on stray dogs. It took a while, but finally we managed to get hold of a copy of the report. You can view it on our new "Retreat Videos" page.

There is no such thing as humane slaughter

As you may know the Retreat Animal Rescue is a vegan run centre where we care for a wide range of animals including a large number of farmed animals. We also try to make people aware of the cruelty in the food industry.  We would therefore urge you to take a look at a report by the national group Animal Aid following their investigation into abattoirs. There are also films showing footage taken covertly by the group at an abattoir in Dorset. Films can also be seen from other slaughterhouses as part of the investigation.

One clip from an Animal Aid film shows a lamb trying to suckle her mother as she is being stunned.  The film continues with the lamb trying to follow her as she is dragged away to have her throat cut.  When we hear horrific stories like this and see the suffering of these poor souls we look at the wonderful creatures that live with us at the Retreat and think how close they were to suffering the same horrors.

This does not make pleasant viewing but we believe that people should be aware of this suffering and this will hopefully encourage people to consider changing to a more compassionate lifestyle by turning vegetarian or vegan.
