Adopting an Animal

Adopting a non-human animal friend is a big undertaking — but ask anyone: it’s worth it!

If you’ve fallen in love with an animal already, or have space in your heart for a companion, please read this page before getting in touch with us.

Thousands of animals have been adopted through The Retreat over the years. Could you take one more?

The Process

The adoption process is outlined below:

Step 1. Email The Retreat, or fill out the contact form below, to tell us that you are interested in adopting an animal.

Step 2. If a suitable match is found, a member of The Retreat will get in touch with you to arrange to introduce you to the prospective companion animal.

Step 3. A home visit will be arranged so that we can ensure that your home is suitable for the companion animal.

Step 4. If you live in rented accommodation, a letter from your landlord is required consenting to your adoption of an animal.

Step 5. A few meetings are usually arranged before you are able to take the companion animal home.

Once we’re happy, you’re happy, and — most importantly — the companion animal is happy, you are ready to take them home to a new life!

Please note: there is no distance limit for adoptions. As long as you are suitable and you are able to travel to us to meet the animal, you are welcome.
